NCCER has recognized that there are certain crafts that are either relatively new to the industry or are a compilation of skills from more than one traditional craft. These particular crafts require some additional instructor requirements. Please see the following chart:

 

Craft/Course

Instructor Requirements*

Your Role in the Green Environment

Must achieve at least one of the following:

  • Pass an instructor’s exam covering the material in the Your Role in the Green Environment module, or
  • Possess an NCCER Sustainable Construction Supervisor Knowledge Verified*** Credential, or
  • Possess active Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional status (not Green Advantage)

Sustainable Construction Supervisor

Must possess and produce one of the following professional credentials:

  • NCCER Sustainable Construction Supervisor Knowledge Verified***
  • LEED Green Associate
  • LEED AP without specialty
  • LEED AP BD+C; LEED AP O+M; or LEED AP ID+C

Weatherization Fundamentals

  • Must be certified to teach the Core Curriculum

Weatherization Tech (Level 1)

  • Must pass the instructor exam for Weatherization Technician Level One

Building Auditor Level 2

  • Must be an NCCER-Certified HVAC instructor
  • Must pass an instructor exam that covers all non-HVAC modules in the Weatherization program

Crew Chief Level 2

  • Must be an NCCER-Certified HVAC instructor
  • Must pass an instructor exam that covers all non-HVAC modules in the Weatherization program

Intro to Solar

  • Must possess a minimum of journey-level electrician experience
  • Minimum of one year field experience installing solar PV panels

Solar PV Installer

  • Must possess a minimum of journey-level electrician experience
  • Minimum of one year field experience installing solar PV panels

Intro to Wind Energy

  • Must be certified to teach the Core Curriculum

Wind Turbine Maintenance Tech Level 1

  • Must be an NCCER Certified Electrical instructor;
  • Must pass an instructor exam; and
  • Must have at least one year of experience in the wind industry.

Alternative Energy

  • Must pass an instructor’s exam based upon the material.

Safety Orientation

Field Safety (CSSS)

Safety Technology For 11 selected modules** (CSST)

All Safety Technology (CSSM)

Power Industry Fundamentals

  • Must be NCCER-certified instructors for the Core Curriculum.

Power Generation

  • Must possess NCCER certification as an instructor in a related discipline, including: Millwright, Industrial Maintenance Mechanic, Industrial Maintenance E&I, and/or
  • Experience working in a power plant or power-generation facility (Qualified Journey-level Power Plant Maintenance Mechanic/Electrician/I&C Tech)

Power Line Worker: Distribution

  • Must have at least 3 years of experience in the Power Industry

Signal Person

  • Anyone qualified to teach the current Rigging Fundamentals, Rigging, Basic Rigger, Intermediate Rigger, Advanced Rigger, and/or Mobile Crane Operations curriculum can be qualified to teach the Signal Person curriculum.

Introduction to the Maritime Industry

  • Minimum of three years maritime-related experience

Maritime Pipefitting

  • Minimum of three years maritime-related experience

Maritime Structural Fitter

  • Minimum five years experience as a maritime structural fitter or shipfitter

Management Education Instructor

Must fulfill the following education, training and experience requirements:

  • Completion of NCCER's MTICTP or ICTP class
  • Verification and authorization by the ATS
  • Five years of verifiable experience in the area of instruction as outlined below:
    - Safety
    - Human Resources
    - Resource Controls

Construction Technology

  • There are no additional or special requirements for instructors to be certified to teach Construction Technology. However, instructors for this program typically have work experience in residential construction or remodeling. General contractors or someone with construction experience that involves some knowledge of multiple crafts are ideal instructors for this program.

Construction Workforce Development Professional

  • Must have the Construction Workforce Development Professional certification

 

* All instructors must have successfully completed modules 1-10 of the ICTP and be a CT-ICTP or MT-ICTP.

** 11 selected modules from NCCER Safety Technology: 75204-03, 75205-03, 75206-03, 75208-03, 75209-03, 75210-03, 75212-03, 75213-03, 75214-03, 75215-03, and 75216-03.
