Credentials & National Registry
Credentials
In an effort to provide students and craft professionals with industry-recognized credentials and assure national portability of skills, NCCER maintains a credentialing and certification system through its National Registry. This registry tracks both training and/or assessments for its participants.
For training, the National Registry provides transcripts, certificates and wallet cards to students who successfully complete the NCCER curriculum through an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor. A certificate and a wallet card are granted when a trainee completes Core Curriculum or any other full level of a craft. These industry credentials allow participants to provide easy verification of training for current or potential employers.
For assessments, certification of an individual’s qualifications is tracked through NCCER’s National Registry. Credentials include: certified written for successful completion of the written assessment for a craft; performance verified for successful completion of the performance verification for a craft; and certified plus for successful completion of both the written assessment and the corresponding performance verification. These industry credentials give employers confidence in a craft professional’s skill, knowledge, and desire for continuous improvement.
National Registry
NCCER's National Registry is a secure national database maintained by NCCER to track the names of individuals who have successfully completed any NCCER standardized training program conducted by an accredited organization. It also records all training completions and assessment results for both the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program and the Pipeline Training and Assessment Program.
The National Registry is accessible online through the Automated National Registry (ANR) which provides electronic submission and tracking of training, managing of instructor lists and confirmation of training units and records. It gives NCCER Accredited Sponsors the ability to manage training information online in a secure environment; individuals the ability to review their own training history; and contractors access to current and future employees’ training and assessment history.
An NCCER wallet card gives the employer the opportunity to verify a current employee’s, or a potential employee’s, credentials. The card is not a representation of certification but rather an illustration that the card holder has been entered into NCCER’s National Registry. It is the responsibility of the employer to verify a person’s credentials by visiting NCCER’s Automated National Registry and using the identification number on the wallet card to access their information.
