    Construction’s Best Golf Tournament Scores a Hole-In-One

    For Immediate Release

Alachua, Fla.—For the second year in a row, the Build Your Future initiative raised over $20,000 in recruitment funds for the construction industry through its annual Scramble for Skills Golf Tournament. This year’s event was held at the Arnold Palmer Signature Course at the Reunion Resort and Club in Orlando, Fla. on November 14th and 15th. The participants enjoyed two days of activities, including instruction from PGA pros, a long-drive exhibition, a fundraising auction and reception and golf tournament at one of the state’s top golf destinations.

On the afternoon of the 14th, golfers rotated through five instructional stations (putting, chipping, full shots, sand and pitching) manned by PGA pros from Back Tee Sports. Following the instructional sessions, two-time World Long Drive Champion Jamie Sadlowski put on an impressive exhibition for the captive audience, showing off his legendary power using a wide array of clubs.

That evening, participants were treated to a dinner reception and fundraising auction that gave teams the opportunity to bid on one of nine available PGA pros including Willie Wood, who has two Champions Tour wins in 2012. Each of the pros auctioned were added to the highest bidding teams as a fifth teammate for the tournament. Tony Biata, from the Folds of Honor Foundation, spoke to the group and two Patriot Cup golf trips were also auctioned to raise funds for construction industry recruitment and his foundation. The night was capped off by presentations from SkillsUSA carpentry students Kenneth Pude and Nicholas Kraemer from Port St. Lucie, Fla., who spoke to the group about their passion for construction and their desire to enter the industry.

On Thursday, the four person shamble tournament was a huge hit with the golfers. The participants enjoyed the opportunity to win hole prizes and play alongside the pros. Congratulations to the winning team: Eddie and Jerry Rispone of ISC, Craig Hurley of Harsco, Frank Riggs of Troutman Sanders and their PGA pro Jason Eslinger.

“This year’s tournament was another huge success. The funds we were able to raise support the important goal of recruiting the next generation of craft professionals for our industry,” stated Diane Greene, executive director of the Build Your Future initiative.
