GBCI Approves NCCER Course on Weatherization
For Immediate Release
Alachua, Fla. — NCCER’s module Introduction to Weatherization has been approved as high-quality green building education by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI). Introduction to Weatherization passed a rigorous review process in which a team of third-party subject matter experts evaluated the course based on its content and instructional design quality.
With its approval by GBCI, Introduction to Weatherization will now help LEED Professionals satisfy their Credential Maintenance Program (CMP) requirements. Introduction to Weatherization is worth 17.5 GBCI continuing education hours in the CMP program. Currently, 10 NCCER modules have been approved by GBCI for CMP credit.
NCCER earned recognition as a GBCI Education Provider in 2010 with the approval of Your Role in the Green Environment and four HVAC modules. Education Providers are third-party organizations that offer top-notch and relevant green building education and training that has been peer-reviewed and approved by GBCI.
This stand-alone module introduces the purposes and benefits of weatherization training by examining the economic and environmental effects of the inefficient use of energy in heating and cooling buildings. It also describes the common ways in which heat is lost, how cold air infiltrates a house, and introduces remediation methods such as air sealing and insulation as a foundation for more advanced training as a weatherization technician. The module also explores career opportunities in the weatherization industry.
