Alachua, Fla. — NCCER is pleased to recognize Lloyd Evans, hiring and training administrator for Watson Electrical Construction Co. LLC of Wilson, N.C., as the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) 2014 Craft Instructor of the Year.

NCCER honored Evans with the prestigious award at ABC’s Workforce Development Conference in Birmingham, Ala., on May 2. The Craft Instructor of the Year is presented to an instructor who possesses outstanding creativity, a positive attitude and the ability to transfer knowledge through exceptional communications skills and innovative teaching to promote lifelong learning to the future workforce.

Evans, a Vietnam veteran, began as an electrical helper for Watson Electrical Construction and worked his way up to foreman, supervisor, office and division manager and is now the hiring and training administrator. His focus is on educating new hires about the company, assisting with company training processes and working with apprentices by teaching and training them for local and national competitions.

“Lloyd's knowledge, experience and his positive attitude serves as a great example to our apprentices and other employees,” said Darren Green, vice president of human resources at Watson Electrical Construction. “He is willing to make himself available to help anyone who desires to learn more about the electrical industry or needs help in any area.”

Evans is also an NCCER Master Trainer and NCCER Sponsor Representative for Watson Electrical Construction. He participates in career fairs throughout North Carolina to help educate high school students about the benefits of a career in the electrical industry. In addition, Evans works closely with veterans to educate them on opportunities within his company and the electrical industry as a whole after they leave the service.

NCCER and ABC also recognized Robert Stuart, an electrician superintendent at Stronghold Engineering in Menifee, Calif., as the 2014 Craft Professional of the Year.  The award recognizes Stuart’s work in the industry and his commitment to safety, training and the merit shop philosophy. He was previously awarded the Craft Instructor of the Year in 2011 for his devotion to mentoring electrical apprentices for the ABC Southern California Chapter.

“This year’s award winners represent the best the construction industry has to offer, and ABC is proud to honor Lloyd, Robert and the craft trainees who will lead the industry moving forward,” said 2014 ABC National Chairman Dan Brodbeck, president and CEO of Compass Partners, LLC of Brentwood, Tenn.
