Gainesville, Fla.– The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) sponsored the ABC Extreme Makeover: Home Edition TV show in Gainesville, Fla. during the week of Dec. 7-14, 2009. The home was constructed for the Wagstaff family of northeast Gainesville. NCCER provided staff who volunteered throughout the build and a financial contribution for the custom-built home for the family.

“When we learned of the opportunity to make a difference in our own community, we immediately joined the other sponsors to take part in this life changing event,” said NCCER President Don Whyte. “We are proud to be a part of something of this magnitude and be able to educate the public about how craftsmanship and pride in the construction industry positively impacts communities.”

NCCER is dedicated to making a difference in the construction industry. Skilled craft professionals bring immeasurable value to the industry and the communities they work in, a fact that cannot be emphasized enough. A skilled workforce is critical in building safe roadways, hospitals, schools and homes for deserving families, like the Wagstaff family.

“Extreme Makeover changes the lives of many families,” Whyte added. “We are proud to support them because NCCER also changes the lives of individuals by giving them the skills to pursue a rewarding career in construction…we are helping to build futures.”
