Required Competency Areas

At least two years of cumulative experience in any four of the following six areas:

  • Produce a short-term project schedule
  • Track and maintain progress against the schedule
  • Understand and implement master project schedule through traditional methods and with advanced software (e.g., Microsoft Project or Primavera)
  • Use the estimate or material takeoff to plan task hours for project

Project Information Management
  • Read and interpret project information (plans, specifications, submittals, shop drawings, BIM models)
  • Identify critical contractual terms and conditions
  • Generate Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Estimate impact of changes on cost/schedule and manage change orders
  • Revise the short- and medium-term project schedules to account for changes
  • Produce and submit Daily Reports

Pre-Construction / Site Logistics
  • Create site logistics plan
  • Understand material procurement, handling, storage, accounting and compliance verification
  • Establish business case for equipment and use within the project schedule
  • Allocate resources to accomplish the project schedule

Procurement, Purchase Control and Tracking
  • Create and implement a look-ahead schedule for materials and labor
  • Read and interpret production (labor) reports to identify trends and anticipate impacts on schedule and budget
  • Track and verify work-in-place and stored materials against accounts

Quality Assurance
and Control
  • Identify quality requirements in project specifications
  • Establish and/or implement a quality assurance plan for the project
  • Set and enforce quality standards for materials and methods
  • Assist subcontractors in developing project-specific Quality Assurance plan
  • Monitor materials from delivery to placement to prevent damage or loss
  • Develop and implement Quality Control testing plan
3 months
Project Close-Out
  • Develop structured project close-out plan
  • Complete required project documentation for close-out
  • Understand punch list requirements and completion reporting requirements
  • Develop agenda for project close-out meeting for key personnel and subcontractors
  • Understand the owner's role in completion

To maintain this certification, candidates must continue actively working in the industry and provide NCCER with documented experience in the competency areas every three years. The written assessment that resulted in the NCCER Knowledge Verified credential and completion of the FMI Field Leadership Institute do not expire and do not require resubmission.

Failure to remit this application within three years of the date of your certification will cause your certification to be suspended. NCCER will grant a three-month grace period from the time of expiration for your submission of recertification. There is a $20 recertification fee due upon remittance of this document.
