Chamberlin Roofing & Waterproofing is a leading commercial roofing and waterproofing contractor known for protecting buildings through quality craftsmanship, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to safety. With more than a century of industry experience, Chamberlin continues to invest in its people and the skills needed to deliver exceptional work. Learn how Chamberlin is using NCCER to develop skilled craft professionals, strengthen workforce training, and create opportunities for the next generation of construction professionals.
How does your organization use NCCER programs and services?
At Chamberlin Roofing and Waterproofing, NCCER serves as a foundational component of our workforce development strategy. As an NCCER Approved Training and Assessment organization, we utilize NCCER curricula, assessments, certifications, and leadership development programs to create structured career pathways for employees throughout the company. We incorporate NCCER training into our onboarding, technical skills development, leadership preparation, and promotion processes. Our goal is to provide employees with nationally recognized credentials while building a highly skilled, safety-focused, and leadership-ready workforce.
Which pieces of NCCER’s system does your company use?
Chamberlin actively utilizes multiple components of the NCCER ecosystem, including:
- NCCER Roofing Curriculum (Drawings in Roofing, Introduction to Low Slope Roofing, Substrates, Decks, & Insulation, Sheet Metal in Roofing, Metal Roof Systems, Thermoplastic Roof Systems, Built-Up Roof Systems, Modified Bitumen Roof Systems, Liquid-Applied Roofing, Roofing Service & Repair)
- NCCER Mentoring Program (This is a requirement for Foremen and above to take as well as craftsmen who may be promoted in the near future. Every year, we identify strong foremen or superintendents to serve as a mentor and pair them with a mentee. This paired mentorship lasts typically a year with monthly meetings. It has truly exceeded our expectations as it has changed our culture and strengthened the meaning of teamwork. We now have mentees with mentees of their own (informal mentoring). Many mentees have also been promoted as they have developed remarkably and have shown identifiable growth.)
- NCCER Fundamentals of Crew Leadership
- NCCER Construction Foreman and Superintendent Certification Programs
- (Workforce development and career progression frameworks that align technical training with leadership development)
In addition, we integrate NCCER certifications into our broader training strategy through Chamberlin University, apprenticeship-style programs, and supervisory development initiatives.
Why did your organization choose NCCER?
We selected NCCER because it provides an industry-recognized, standardized, and portable system for developing construction professionals. NCCER’s curriculum aligns closely with the skills required in roofing and waterproofing while also providing structured leadership training that helps employees progress from craft professionals to supervisors and superintendents.
NCCER’s reputation, quality curriculum, nationally recognized credentials, and focus on career progression made it the ideal partner for supporting Chamberlin’s commitment to safety, professional development, and promoting from within. The ability to offer employees credentials that are respected throughout the construction industry also reinforces the value we place on their long-term career growth.
What results or successes have you experienced?
NCCER has helped Chamberlin create a culture of continuous learning and advancement. Through our partnership, we have:

What advice would you give to other contractors considering NCCER?
Commit fully and view NCCER as more than a training program—it is a workforce development system. The greatest value comes when technical training, leadership development, mentoring, and career progression are connected into a single strategy.
Start with clear goals, identify internal champions who can facilitate and support the programs, and make training part of your company culture. Invest in both craft development and leadership development. When employees see a clear path for growth and earn credentials that are recognized throughout the industry, engagement and commitment increase significantly.
For Chamberlin, NCCER has been a valuable partner in helping us develop our people, strengthen our leadership pipeline, and prepare the next generation of construction professionals. NCCER has helped us build a culture where training, leadership development, and career advancement are connected. The partnership has enabled us to invest in our people while creating a stronger workforce prepared to meet the future needs of our industry.
