Site Specific Training Programs / Training Program Successes

One of Turner Industries’ high school students that they were looking into hiring took a tremendous increase in pay because of his skill set –> he did Core and then the first two levels of pipefitting while he was still in school

  • Turner gave him a scholarship and then hired him
  • He’s under 21 years old, took the NCCER Journey-Level Assessment at the end of his training program, scored a 90, but also passed every other competency

Turner Industries hires from schools that do NCCER training –> they provide the instructors, guest speakers, etc. To help them do their training so that they are ready to work at Turner Industries

Turner Industries is also starting to incorporate HammerMath by doing more workshops with high schools and colleges

NCCER Connect – Turner Industries uses it to help supplement their programs within their jobsites that may be farther away from their regional HQ. They have praised NCCER Connect for its portability and ease of use

What advice would you give to other contractors considering NCCER?

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Avoid the costly and time-consuming process of building custom curricula when NCCER offers a turnkey, industry-standard framework ready for immediate deployment. Use NCCER’s modular programs strategically—select the specific training and assessment pathways and delivery methods that best fit your organizational needs.  Treat NCCER not as a tactical training checklist, but as the core framework for a comprehensive workforce development strategy that bridges early recruitment with lifelong craft progression.
