NCCER and BYF Congratulate the 2023 NTHS Scholarship Winners

05/05/2023 Press Release

ALACHUA, Fla. — The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) and Build Your Future (BYF) in conjunction with the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) are proud to recognize recipients of this year’s scholarship.

Recognizing that both non-profit organizations have a shared interest in supporting students who have chosen a career and technical education (CTE) pathway, NTHS and NCCER partnered in 2018 to provide a unique scholarship opportunity that supports students who plan to continue their education in a construction pathway. Scholarship winners are chosen based on their academic merit, NTHS membership and construction program involvement.

The 2023 recipients are:

  • Marcellus Odum from DeSoto County Career & Technology Center – WEST (MS)
  • Declan Anderson from Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center (VT)
  • Zachary Utz from Romeo High School (MI)
  • Reese Spoerndle from Portage Lakes Career Center (OH)
  • Justin Wegard from Beaufort-Jasper Academy For Career Excellence (SC)

“The construction industry is an essential part of our lives; from critical infrastructure, such as roads and energy networks, to the buildings we work in and homes we live in, we depend on this industry,” said NTHS Executive Director Peyton Holland. “The winners of this year’s BYF and NTHS scholarship have shown the skill, passion and desire that will ensure their success. We are so excited to see these individuals not only build their futures in construction but the role they will play in literally building all of our futures as well.”

The NCCER & BYF/NTHS Scholarship can help bridge the skills gap in the construction industry by providing financial help to those seeking craft training. For more information, please visit byf.org/scholarships.
