This module provides fundamental instruction in the green environment, green construction practices, and green building rating systems. It contains exercises on calculating your carbon footprint and worksheets on inventorying household and product impacts.

Additional Instructor Requirements

In addition to our standard instructor requirements, instructors of this craft must achieve at least one of the following:

  • Pass an instructor’s exam covering the material in the Your Role in the Green Environment module, or
  • Possess an NCCER Sustainable Construction Supervisor Knowledge Verified Credential, or
  • Possess active Green Associate or LEED Accredited Professional status (not Green Advantage)

Curriculum

Geared to entry-level craft workers, Your Role in the Green Environment provides pertinent information concerning the Green environment, construction practices, and building rating systems. The Instructor’s Guide includes ‘Green’ building laboratory exercises in carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC. The culminating project is a two bedroom home, with kitchen, bathroom, laundry room, and open space. Materials lists, construction methods, and a framing plan are included.
